About the Role…

The Assistant Accountant will provide accounting support to the Accountant and Financial Accounting Manager at both Taronga Zoo and Taronga Western Plains Zoo. This role is responsible for performing a variety of financial reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end procedures, and preparing departmental financial reports. The position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes across both locations.

 

 

Key Accountabilities…

  • Assist in month end accounting processes, including formulation, and posting of journal entries in a timely and accurate manner including prepayments, unearned income and revenue and expense accruals. 
  • Review and verify cost centre profit and loss statements, general ledger accounts and make adjustments  where appropriate.
  • Respond to queries from cost centre managers and provide explanation on financial transactions.
  • Complete and file BAS within established ATO deadlines.
  • Investigate and resolve clearing account variances on a weekly basis and provide explanations  to transactions and closing balances.
  • Complete monthly/quarterly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual statutory accounts by completing all assigned work papers.

 

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Accounting or Business discipline, or an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and experience
  • Studying towards a professional accounting qualification
  • Obtain and maintain a current volunteer NSW Working with Children Check.
