Taronga Zoo Sydney is currently seeking experienced, innovative and creative teachers to join our team as a Casual Education Officer, to support the zoo's operations and future success.

 

About the Role…

This position is a key role within the Education team, assisting with the delivery of a diversity of education programs. These include curriculum linked lessons that are developed by the Education Team.  We are seeking highly engaging, creative, and energetic casual educators who have a passion for conservation.

 

Key Accountabilities…

  • Deliver high quality lessons that support education programs for Kindergarten- Year 12 school students, and community groups.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of community engagement and outreach programs that support behaviour change.
  • Assist in contributing and achieving targets to increase opportunities for education and community groups to engage in the cross curricula priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture.
  • Communicate Taronga’s education and conservation messages both internally and externally, ensuring all communications align with Taronga’s values to inspire change in accordance with Taronga’s vision and strategic pillars.
  • Develop strong relationships with representatives at all levels of management throughout the organisation to support the achievement of business strategy, vision, mission and purpose.
  • Comply with and suggest sustainability practices in the workplace to help achieve Taronga’s sustainability targets and reduce environmental impact.

 

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Hold a formal education qualification (or equivalent/relevant qualifications to the position requirements).
  • Recent school based experience and/or experience in environmental education
  • Passionate about teaching a wide range of students
  • Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate or Occupational First Aid Certificate.
  • Working with Children Check and hold a current NSW Drivers License

Describe a situation where you have been required to teach unfamiliar content to students. How did you build rapport with them? How were you able to make the lesson engaging for the students
