About the Role…
Taronga is committed to conservation - creating a direct and positive connection between wildlife and people. The primary purpose of The Nutrition Officer role is to prepare and coordinate supply and delivery of animal food to meet operational and institutional goals.
Key Accountabilities…
- Prepare diets to meet nutritional needs of the collection.
- Manage inventory, including receipting, ordering, handling, issuing, stock taking, quality control and storage of food products to adhere to financial policies and procedures.
- Provide information, direct enquiries to appropriate team members, and escalate issues as necessary to maintain food safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic food preparation area and ensure equipment is maintained to remain compliant with current food safety, and worker health and safety protocols
- Follow and assess procedures as outlined by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) program to ensure food safety from biological, chemical, and physical hazards.
- Maintain electronic records (inventory and production) to provide current, accurate accounting and services to stakeholders. Manage food intake trials as directed by Nutritionist and Nutrition Supervisor to reduce waste and provide information for improving diets.
- Compile information on sustainability, price and environmental costs of products to assess suppliers and identify opportunities for improvement of supply.
- Work effectively as a member of a high performing team including peers, volunteers and students to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.
About You…
- We are looking for candidates that have:
- A level of medical fitness that allows you to perform the inherent requirements of this role (once all adjustments have been made). Please note: The position of Nutrition Officer is an extremely physical role involving manual handling.
- A current NSW Drivers License or ability to have existing license formally recognised, including manual.
- A current Working with Children Check (or ability to apply for one).
- Experience in a variety of food preparation procedures (butchery an asset), and an understanding of food quality, perishable food storage and stock control procedures.
- Forklift license an asset but not required.
- Certificate in Animal Husbandry, Commercial Cookery, Food Safety, Butchery etc an asset but not required.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel programs.
