Role: Payroll Manager - Taronga Zoo
Taronga Conservation Society Australia is looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join our People, Culture and Safety team.
- Located at Sydney’s Iconic Taronga Zoo – Cammeraigal Country

- TCSA Salaried Employees Award, Clerk Grade 9/ 10, annual package range from $146,736 to $161,698 (includes base salary range from $129,464 to $142,665 + 12% superannuation & leave loading)
Based onsite at Taronga Zoo, we’re looking for an expert in the end-to-end payroll function! You’ll lead our payroll team, ensuring accurate and efficient processing and exceptional customer service to Taronga’s people.
Key Accountabilities…
- Deliver high‑quality customer service through proactive, timely and accurate responses to payroll enquiries and Jira tickets, ensuring adherence to agreed service levels, clear communication with stakeholders, and continuous monitoring of ticket workflows.
- Manage and perform Taronga’s Payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing and compliance with relevant legislation, employment awards, policies and procedures.
- Utilise the maximum capability of our payroll and rostering systems to deliver optimum outcomes for Taronga ensuring such systems are compliant with relevant industrial instruments and Awards, legislation, regulatory requirements and Taronga policies and procedures.
- Partner with key stakeholders and lead the delivery of continuous improvement projects across payroll and rostering systems and processes, while still maintaining the required level of governance. Ensure business requirements are translated to technical specifications that are fit for purpose, complete all necessary user acceptance and post validation testing for all system enhancements, upgrades and releases, and ensure the requisite documentation is developed and maintained.
- Perform internal and external reporting requirements and contribute to the development of a standard suite of management reports and dashboards.
- Effectively manage, lead, mentor and develop a team of engaged, high performing, payroll and scheduling professionals.
- Reconcile Taronga’s Payroll and manage any discrepancies, including liaising with banking institutions, the ATO, government agencies, managers and employees.
- Coordinate and participate in external and internal payroll related audits and implement corrective actions and develop system controls in consultation with key stakeholders.
- Ensure all Payroll processes and procedures are documented and reviewed periodically for their currency, and that system security, risk management and business continuity strategies are developed and implemented.
About You…
We are looking for candidates that have:
- Extensive demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll administration using a Human Resource Information System (HRIS) (e.g. SAP, SuccessFactors, Oracle, etc), preferably coupled with experience of time and attendance systems (e.g. Kronos, UKG, etc), with the ability to manage and lead a team.
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, procedures, legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment conditions, with the ability to understand and apply public sector payroll requirements.
- Extensive experience with system projects, from design through to testing and solution delivery.
- High level analytical, problem solving and numeracy skills including the ability to analyse complex statistical reports and information.
